Oyez! Oyez! Oyez!

For the second time the beautiful Surrey town of Haslemere has hosted their  Town Crier Competition on Bank Holiday Monday the 5th May 2014 during the Charter Fair.

15 Town Criers competed for the 'Tennyson Trophy', which is a dramatic bronze statue of a 17th Lancer of the Light Brigade - a famous military action  immortalised in Alfred Lord Tennyson's poem 'The Charge of the Light Brigade'.

The competition took place in the beautiful gardens of the Haslemere Educational Museum, where the public came to see and hear some of the country's top criers in action.

Congratualtions to Lichfield's Town Crier, Ken Knowles who wins this trophy for a second time.  After the presention Ken's other prize was to sit for an oil painting by local artist Pippa Daniel.


 

Congratulations aslo go to Chris Brown from the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead who was runner up and Owen Collier, the Crier from Royal Wootton Bassett for coming third.

Best Dressed Crier was Stephen Cunliffe from Dawlish and Best Dressed Escort was Jenny Evans from Minchinhampton and Nailsworth.
