Half a league, half a league, Half a league onward, all in the valley of Death Rode the six hundred.

That of course is the taken from the Charge of The Light Brigade . A poem written by Haslemere’s most distinguished resident Alfred Lord Tennyson.

It is therefore fitting that participants in Haslemere’s third Town Criers Competition will be vying for the ‘Tennyson Trophy’.

Each Crier will carry out two proclamations, both taking place within the picturesque gardens of the Haslemere Educational Museum.  The first will be a ‘Home Cry’ at 11am. After a hot lunch, courtesy of The Georgian Hotel, we will parade through the town to officially open the Charter Fair and inform the throng of the competition. The second cry, at 2.30pm, will be 'Military Blunders'. Both proclamations will be the standard 100 to 125 words and the AHGTC rules will be applied.

Prizes will be awarded to the first 3 Town Criers, the Best Dressed Town Crier and the Best Dressed Escort.
